Hello.
We have just returned from Borneo.
You have to stay in Kota Kinabalu, already gots some nice hotels.
I stayed at the resort of Puerto Sutera is beautiful and very quiet, which is great.
Sandakan is the place where the sanctuary animals. It is a flight from Kota, but mega-cheap and can be carried out during the day.
It is true that there is an orang-utan at the Shangri La Rasa Ria Resort, but the area itself is not so much. It's more a kind of zoo in the same environment doesn own experience that you want. In addition, the hotel is not so great. As inhabitants of a small piece of GREEN (where the orang-utan) is that it has a lot of mosquitoes and insects. Other hotels do not have this problem.
I visited the region as a travel agent with the tourist office so that I can visit most of the hotels in the region and certainly the kind of resource Sutera Harbor on another. It is divided into two hotels, the Magellan and the Pacific. The Pacific Hotel is a tall building better suited for business travelers. The Magellan is a tourist hotel.Unbelievable. The lobby is a large air tiki building.
I wish I was back!

I do not know much about Sabah / Sarawak. But maybe you could give to the WWF (WWF) Contact for further information.

If Sepilok near Sandakan in Sabah.
Accessible via Kota Kinabalu.
Ignore the trash never saw the white, Kota Kinabalu, before Jesselton, the capital of the former colony of North Borneo and was long associated with the Europeans.
Sepilok worth a visit and there are decent hotels in Sandakan.
